Existing Project 11: Recollections

March 4, 2007

This interactive artwork takes the silhouette with the use of a video camera and projects it as a solid color from here different color images amass and animations and paintings from 16 million colors are created.  This  requires the use of peoples interactions standing front of the projection which keeps the focus away from the computing side of things. Also the users will be presented with different animations and art works to keep them entertained.

Existing Project 10: Pulley Slowly Rolling Bop

March 4, 2007

This project allows users to create there own roller coaster. This is done by having a series of balls that is on top of the kids climber on a wire rack. By manipulating switches users can make the balls turn, jump through hoops, intersect and launch from a catapult.  This work takes invisible computing to  another level by not relying on computers at all. Its just a fun interactive work that kids are bound to appreciate. While computers may be required for the work it is still an interesting piece of interactive work.

Existing Project 9: Arc Tangent

March 3, 2007

Arc tangent consists of a circle on the floor. As viewers move closer to the projection on the floor real time drawings are created depending on peoples positions and movements around the projection. The arc tangent changes through different modes depending on the spacial relationship. One of these modes is a circular game of pong. This is a good example of Ubiquitous computing as the computer isn’t even considered all the interaction is based around the projection on the floor.

Existing Project 8: Artificial Time

March 3, 2007

The interactive artwork artificial time consists of a robotic arm with a halogen light at the end. This is connected to the web. The light connected to the arm acts as a sundial . While the visitor controls the movement of the robotic arm the shadow on the sundial changes acting as a proposed time changer by showing the shadow at different times of the day. This work provides a chance to educate as well as create a type of interaction which is different from the standard point and click. The robotic arm is cool and acts to remove the user from the computer.

Existing Project 7: The Party Effect

March 2, 2007

This project reacted to visitors movements through a massive 3D sound and light sculpture . There are 96 light beams in this structure and sensors on the floor that record changes in light which in turn effects the sounds that are produced. Vistors can effect the sounds also trigger sounds with simple movements. The visitors were crucial for the party effect to work as it is the visitors that trigger what sounds are made in the structure. The only things that the focus is on is the lights and the sounds making the computer side invisible.

Existing Project 6: Web Of Life

March 1, 2007

The web of life project (wol) is quite a big project with multiple installations connected together with the internet. The wol scans visitors hand lines the hand lines are then added to the network. These hand lines are then changed into a kaleidoscopic, three-dimensional stereo image. Each line of the image opens up a new other images and sounds. This project is representative of Ubiquitous computing as it uses multiple locations with the internet to link the network together. The network runs in the background so does the creation of the images and sounds.

Existing Project 5: Handsight

March 1, 2007

Handsight is really interesting. The user walks into a dark room in the center of the room is a transparent bowl. Projected on a wall is a virtual work which the user can look around in by placing a hand held eyeball interface within the bowl. Which creates a link between the physical and the virtual world. This work is a very good example of interaction as it focuses of the different type of interfac. The eye draws the attention away from the computer by the use of a cleaver interface design. It puts the computer in the background.

Existing Project 4: The Robotic Chair

February 27, 2007

The robotic chair is another piece of work by Raffaello D’Andrea. The robotic chair begins by breaking itself apart onto the floor. This chair then begins to reassemble itself. This work is really interesting and grabs the attention of the audience. The main part of the chair is run by some sort of motor which moves around and connected the other pieces to it. Its interesting how Raffaello does such interesting things with everyday objects. Here you don’t see what any computers are doing just the motor moving. While this project doesn’t involve the user overly interacting with the environment it does show a different way that a project can be presented.

Existing Project 3: The Table

February 27, 2007

This piece of interactive art is done by Raffaello D’Andrea. The table was just a single table placed within a room. When visitors walked through the room the table would interact with them by moving towards them and also backing away from visitors. What i found the most interesting about this work was the people reactions to it. This really shows invisible computing very well as you see nothing but the table and wheels. In an artistic view of the project it was quite good just a single table no one had any idea what to expect.

Existing Project 2: Easel

February 27, 2007

Easel:

This interactive work uses video to capture an image of the user. The user can then paint over the appearance of the piece using a paint brush which is made using technology such as infrared and fiber optic bristles the output of this is that what the user pains using the brush appears on the projected image. This allows the users to become artists themselves. This very much relies on the user interaction with the piece using the brush the fact that it is being run by a computer is almost completely forgotten.
